Mahum

Meet Mahum - she’s in IB1 and at 16 years old she’s a PUBLISHED AUTHOR.

Who better to tell you more, than Mahum herself:

“I co-authored a book for teens, it’s a Welsh series for young people. We were trying to bring welsh diversity to literature because there is a HUGE gap.”

“It’s about a girl called Aniq who is a welsh pakistani muslim character who has lost her mother and is going through grief.”

“The books were published in 2021 and there are now plans to turn it into a TV show. It’s in the early stages at the moment and will be in the Welsh language.”

The book is called Y Pump - Aniq and it’s one some prestigious welsh literature awards including the Tir Na N-og awards from  @llyfrau.cymru and the Wales Book of the Year 2022 @llencymry_litwales.

“For me I’ve wanted to come to UWC Atlantic for years now, I found out when I was 12 years old, and I knew I wanted to go there and worked towards it since then. Before,I went to a very white Welsh school and here there’s so much diversity and I get to see so many students who look like me.

I don’t know what I want to do after UWCA Atlantic but I do know, whatever I do, I want to do it with a purpose and make a difference and impact change, possibly through my writing.”
